Tips For Cleaning Your Wood Table

You love the look of wood and you refuse to cover up your wood tables with any sort of protective covering. That is completely understandable. A wood table adds a certain class and sophistication to any room. However, to maintain that classy look, it is important that the table should be clean and stain free. How much effort is required to clean a wood table depends upon how dirty the table tends to get as well as the type of finish it has. A dining table is more likely to get dirtier faster as compared to a coffee table or a side table that is just used for showing off your curios. This is not at all surprising. Crumbs, water spills, jams and juices all leave their telltale marks on the wood and over a period of time your once stain-free wood dining table will start to look blotchy and stained.

This articles talks about what are the different options when it comes to cleaning wood tables as well as chairs.

Regular dusting is the most basic requirement when it comes to keeping your wood tables and chairs clean. No matter what you do, dust inevitably settles down on your furniture and will cause it to look dull and well, dusty. Regular dusting will help wood furniture regain some of its sheen. Using a static cloth when dusting can help you get the furniture looking cleaner in a shorter time. When you dust your wood table and chair with a static cloth, the dust gets attracted to the cloth and leaves behind a dust free surface with one swipe of the cloth.

While regular dusting with a static cloth is good enough to keep your furniture from looking too dull and drab, it does require additional treatment once in a while to keep it gleaming. The easiest and most effective way to do this is with a commercial wood furniture polish. These come in solid wax form and in spray form in a can. When using a can of spray wax, shake the can and spray lightly over the surface of the wood table. After a minute, wipe off the excess with a clean paper towel or soft flannel cloth. As you wipe it up, the dirt and dust cling on to the wax, leaving the table dust free and shining. When using the solid wax form, dab a little over a clean soft cloth and rub the table or chair till the surface looks shiny and clean.

Never use water to clean any tables or chairs that are non-sealed as they will soak up the water and the surface will look stained and water marked. The best way to maintain non sealed wood surfaces and keep them looking shiny is with lemon oil. To do this you soak a soft cloth in lemon oil and rub it into the table till it stops absorbing the oil. Then wipe off the surface with another clean cloth and let the table dry out a bit before you place anything on it.
