WordPress might be the most user-friendly and free blog hosting platform available today. It does not mean that it is completely perfect and fulfils all your needs. There are many faults in the system which can make it sometimes difficult to work and manage your sites; I am going to list some of the faults associated with WordPress and give my verdict on it.
1. Translation Job:
If you are planning to build a website which is multilingual in nature, then WordPress Its not your best friend. The translating feature of WordPress is not the best. Many of the volunteers who translate in WordPress give very mediocre results. For now, I don’t know why but the newer version of WordPress has some bugs associated with the translation job. Hence, if you want a translation work done, then opt for another reliable method.
2. Weak Security
WordPress is the most popular but also the most hacked one. It has a long history of being hacked brutally where the hackers try different passwords retrieve a users account. On top of that, all the plugins and themes associated with your work are also linked to shady sites most of the time. Some of the plugin developers are hackers. If you download them, then you become the easiest target of hacking. Next time you download that plugin; please think twice.
3. Difficult Configuration:
WordPress does not come in a glittery package whose installation will open up an easy way for you to blog. All the default settings set up in WordPress are incomplete. A user has to change the setting to get the maximum benefits from many hidden features. It can be a headache to a new user.
4. Unreliable Support:
WordPress has a budding community of volunteers, programmers and plugin developers who are always there to answer your questions. However, there are times when all your questions are not answered correctly. You can buy WordPress support from companies, but the payment is hefty. Hence, to get your perfect answer, you should do some hard work with a couple of bucks.
5. Shady Source Code:
The majority of plugins and themes for WordPress are associated with unreliable sites and have a shady source code. Sometimes users cannot disable these plugins after installing. It hampers their dashboard too.
6. Difficult Customisation:
You need to have an expert knowledge of Php and My SQL if you want to customise those themes and plugins to get desired results. For a lay person, it becomes frustrating and mind boggling to handle all these problems without expert help.
7. Frequent Updates:
Once a month update is fine but many plugins of WordPress need daily updates. This is very cumbersome and irritating. Also after an update, most of the files are replaced without any backup and recovery. It can be problematic to an ace programming guy too.
After I have listed out some major problems with WordPress, I must say that it is still the most user-friendly blogging platform which is free to use. It still caters about 75 million website builders. It is recommended if you are planning to start a website. However, if you are creating a website with some high profile and sensitive content, then it is better to go for another method.
